AGENCY: Department of Defense.
ACTION: Notice of advisory committee meetings.

SUMMARY: The Defense Science Board Task Force on Unexploded Ordnance
(UXO) will meet in closed session on April 22-23, 2003, and May 13-14,
2003, at SAIC Inc., 4001 N. Fairfax Street, Arlington, VA. This Task
Force will review modern technology that can be exploited or developed
to reduce the extremely high cost of UXO clean up.
The mission of the Defense Science Board is to advise the Secretary
of Defense and the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition,
Technology & Logistics on Scientific and Technical matters as they
affect the perceived needs of the Department of Defense. At these
meetings, the Defense Science Board Task Force will review and evaluate
the Department's ability to exploit modern technology to reduce the
extremely high cost of UXO clean up and improve its effectiveness for
both contaminated land and water ranges and help accomplish the job in
a reasonable time; and science and technologies that can be developed
to support and sustain continued live fire training and testing of
munitions at ranges across the United States with an acceptable
environmental impact.
In accordance with Section 10(d) of the Federal Advisory Committee
Act, P.L. No. 92-463, as amended (5 U.S.C. App. II), it has been
determined that these Defense Science Board Task Force meetings concern
matters listed in 5 U.S.C. 552b(b)(1) and that, accordingly, these
meetings will be closed to the public.
