    The Department of Commerce (DOC) has submitted to the Office of 
Management and Budget (OMB) for clearance the following proposal for 
collection of information under provisions of the Paperwork Reduction 
Act (44 U.S.C. Chapter 35).
    Agency: Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).
    Title: Technology Letter of Explanation.
    Agency Form Number: N/A.
    OMB Approval Number: 0694-0047.
    Type of Request: Extension of a currently approved collection of 
information.
    Burden: 8,807 hours.
    Average Time per Response: \1/2\ to 2 hours.
    Number of Respondents: 5,050 respondents.
    Needs and Uses: The information contained in these letters will 
assure BIS that no unauthorized technical data will be exported for 
unauthorized end-uses or to unauthorized destinations and thus provide 
assurance that U.S. national security and foreign policy programs are 
followed.
    Affected Public: Individuals, businesses or other for-profit 
institutions.
    Respondent's Obligation: Required to obtain or retain benefits.
