Submission for OMB Review; Comment Request
The Department of Commerce has submitted to the Office of
Management and Budget (OMB) for clearance the following proposal for
collection of information under the provisions of the Paperwork
Reduction Act (44 U.S.C. Chapter 35).
Agency: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Title: Emergency Beacon Registrations.
Form Number(s): None.
OMB Approval Number: 0648-0295.
Type of Request: Regular submission.
Burden Hours: 5,000.
Number of Respondents: 20,000.
Average Hours Per Response: 15 minutes.
Needs and Uses: An international system exists to use satellites to
detect and locate ships, aircraft, or individuals in distress if they
are equipped with an emergency radio beacon. Persons purchasing such a
beacon must register it with NOAA. The data provided in the
registration can assist in identifying who is in trouble and also
suppressing the consequences of false alarms.
Affected Public: Individuals or households; business or other for-
profit organizations; not-for-profit institutions; Federal Government;
State, Local or Tribal Government.
Frequency: On occasion.
Respondent's Obligation: Mandatory.
