Agency Information Collection Activities: Requests for Comments; 
Clearance of Renewed Approval of Information Collection: Aviation 
Medical Examiner Program

AGENCY: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), DOT.

ACTION: Notice and request for comments.

SUMMARY: In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, FAA 
invites public comments about our

intention to request the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approval 
to renew an information collection. The Federal Register Notice with a 
60-day comment period soliciting comments on the following collection 
of information was published on October 28, 2010, vol. 75, No. 208, 
page 66422. The collection of information is for the purpose of 
obtaining essential information concerning the applicants' professional 
and personal qualifications. The FAA uses the information to screen and 
select the designees who serve as aviation medical examiners.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:
    OMB Control Number: 2120-0604.
    Title: Aviation Medical Examiner Program.
    Form Numbers: FAA Form 8520-2.
    Type of Review: Renewal of an information collection.
    Background: The collection of information is currently accomplished 
by use of FAA Form 8520-2, Aviation Medical Examiner Designation 
Application. The information is necessary to determine the 
qualifications of those physicians applying to become aviation medical 
examiners. The information is also used to develop the AME directories 
used by approximately 620,000 airmen who must undergo periodic 
examinations by AMEs in order to obtain medical certificates.
    Respondents: Approximately 450 aviation medical examiner 
applicants.
    Frequency: Information is collected on occasion.
    Estimated Average Burden per Response: 30 minutes.
    Estimated Total Annual Burden: 225 hours.

collection of information is necessary for FAA's performance; (b) the 
accuracy of the estimated burden; (c) ways for FAA to enhance the 
quality, utility and clarity of the information collection; and (d) 
ways that the burden could be minimized without reducing the quality of 
the collected information. The agency will summarize and/or include 
your comments in the request for OMB's clearance of this information 
collection.
