The food additive 4-hydroxymethyl-2,6-di-tert-butylphenol may be safely used in food in accordance with the following prescribed conditions: (a) The additive has a solidification point of 140 deg.C-141 deg.C. (b) The additive is used as an antioxidant alone or in combination with other permitted antioxidants. (c) The total amount of all antioxidants added to such food shall not exceed 0.02 percent of the oil or fat content of the food, including the essential (volatile) oil content of the food.
