(a) Identity. The product is produced by hydrogenation of corn syrup over a nickel catalyst. (b) Specifications. The product contains 70 percent hydrogenated corn syrup and a maximum of 0.5 percent reducing sugars. (c) Uses. The product is used as a humectant and plasticizer in preparation of soft-moist dog and cat foods. (d) Limitations. The product is preferably stored in a closed, stainless steel or aluminum container. The level of use of the product shall not exceed 15 percent of the total weight of the pet food formulation. (e) Labeling. The labeling shall bear, in addition to other information required by the Act: (1) The name of the additive. (2) Adequate directions for use in accordance with the provisions in paragraph (d) of this section. [45 FR 22920, Apr. 4, 1980]
