Authority: 15 U.S.C. 2056, 2058, 2079(d). This part 1212, a consumer product safety standard, prescribes requirements for multi-purpose lighters. These requirements are intended to make the multi-purpose lighters subject to the standard's provisions resistant to successful operation by children younger than 5 years of age. This standard applies to all multi-purpose lighters, as defined in Sec. 1212.2, that are manufactured in the United States, or imported, on or after December 22, 2000.
