Sec. 491.2  Definition of shortage area for RHC purposes.

    Shortage area means a geographic area that meets one of the 
following criteria. It is--
    (a) Designated by the Secretary as an area with shortage of personal 
health services under section 330(b)(3) of the Public Health Service 
Act;
    (b) Designated by the Secretary as a health professional shortage 
area under section 332(a)(1)(A) of the public Health Service Act because 
of its shortage of primary medical care professionals;
    (c) Determined by the Secretary to contain a population group that 
has a health professional shortage under section 332(a)(1)(B) of that 
Act; or
    (d) Designated by the chief executive officer of the State and 
certified by the Secretary as an area with a shortage of personal health 
services.
