Under a provision of the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002, 42 [[Page 1127]] U.S.C. 300hh 11(e)(3), ``service in the uniformed services'' includes service performed as an intermittent disaster-response appointee upon activation of the National Disaster Medical System or participation in an authorized training program, even if the individual is not a member of the uniformed services.
