(a) A survivor election under subsection (j) or (k) of section 8339, or under section 8416, 8417, or 8420 of title 5, United States Code, which is otherwise required to be in writing may be effected in such form as the Director prescribes under Sec. 850.104. (b)(1) Except as provided in Sec. Sec. 831.622(b)(1), 831.631, 831.632, 842.610(b)(1), 842.611, and 842.612 of this chapter, an individual making a survivor election at the time of retirement may not revoke or change that election later than 35 days after the date of the OPM notice to the individual of the amount of annuity to which he or she is entitled. (2) A retiree may change a survivor election under Sec. 831.622(b)(1) or Sec. 842.610(b)(1) of this chapter no later than 18 months after the commencing date of the annuity to which he or she is entitled.
